The shortest road by car between Oslo and Bergen is RV7, and roughly midway between the two cities is Geilo. RV7 over Hardangervidda and along the Hardangerfjord is a Norwegian scenic route. You can also get to Geilo via FV50 over the mountain from west to east. The road runs along magnificent nature between Aurland and Hol. From Hol it is 10 km to Geilo. From Geilo, the FV40 road runs through Numedal, Kongsberg, Larvik, and on to Tønsberg and Sandefjord.
