Geilo National Park Village

Geilo is a national park village in the municipality of Hol with Hardangervidda and Hallingskarvet national park as its nearest neighbours.

Geilo is best known for its ski slopes and hundreds of kilometres of cross-country skiing tracks, but Geilo also offers several other types of activities throughout the year. Geilo has nice cafes, good restaurants, and shopping.

Travel to Geilo by train

Travelling by train to Geilo is comfortable and the journey does not take a long time. The journey lasts about 3 hours from Bergen and 3.5 hours from Oslo. The VY trains operating on the Bergen Line pass through the most beautiful, wild, and untouched nature in Norway.

The train has 5-6 arrivals/departures per day, to and from Geilo. You can buy ticket in the VY app, online or at a VY ticket machine at the train station. Remember to buy a ticket before boarding.

Travel to Geilo by car

The shortest road by car between Oslo and Bergen is RV7, and roughly midway between the two cities is Geilo. RV7 over Hardangervidda and along the Hardangerfjord is a Norwegian scenic route. You can also get to Geilo via FV50 over the mountain from west to east. The road runs along magnificent nature between Aurland and Hol. From Hol it is 10 km to Geilo. From Geilo, the FV40 road runs through Numedal, Kongsberg, Larvik, and on to Tønsberg and Sandefjord.
